Spray Foam Insulation Saves Money on Your Electric Bill

At South Texas Insulation, our goal is to keep your home warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer! Different types of insulation work well in some areas of your home and poorly in others. We will offer the best home insulation solution for your home. We only promote spray foam insulation products that will keep your home properly insulated. Studies have found that 90% of homes are under insulated! This is costing homeowners thousands of dollars each year in electric bills. On top of that, under insulated homes are at higher risk for pests and moisture-based issues such as mold.

Spray Foam

What is Spray Foam?

When you’re thinking about installing new insulation, spray foam is a great option to consider, especially for homes and buildings that suffer from the extremes of Texas weather. Spray foam is a two-component mixture of isocyanate and polynol resin. During installation, this mixture is combined to create a polyurethane foam that expands to fill every nook and cranny of a wall cavity. It can be installed in the attic, walls and floors to improve air quality and energy efficiency. Unlike traditional insulating materials like fiberglass and cellulose, spray foam can be used in virtually every area of your home or building. Due to its versatility, spray foam is also ideal for problematic and difficult-to-insulate areas.

Open-Cell Spray Foam Insulation

Open-cell foam means that the cells are broken and air fills the gaps inside the material. Open-cell foam is thus softer and less structurally stiff than closed-cell foams, where the cells form a cohesive structure. The closed-cells hold their shape as they are filled with gas, making them stronger to pressure and also creating a better insulator. If the foam will not be stressed by outside forces, doesn’t need to conform to a solid shape, and the budget is limited, then open-cell foam is best.

Closed-Cell Spray Foam Insulation

For areas that need higher insulation of air and water vapor, will have more exposed usage, require structural support or decoration, and the budget is higher, then closed-cell foam is a better option. Whereas open-cell foam is limited in its insulation range, closed-cell foam can vary greatly in density and insulation factors.
